VoxPopNJ was started in 2009 by Laura Gesin, a Jersey Shore Technology teacher with a marketing and internet services background. In November, she organized AsburyPop, which brought together about a dozen local writers, artists and business owners who shared their social media tactics as it related to their jobs through fast-paced Powerpoint presentations. Dustin Racioppi, one of the presenters, wrote a piece about the event for Red Bank Orbit.
Following its success, she decided to start VoxPopNJ, short for Voice of the People, to extend the principles of AsburyPop to a broader audience for the purpose of helping local businesses, artists, and individuals join the creative learning community of social media. VoxPopNJ hosts workshops and events at the Jersey Shore and also offers web design & development integrated with social media marketing strategies.
